July 27,
1979, the Kaohsiung Architects Association was formally established
in the City of Kaohsiung. In the same year, while the City was promoted
to a Privileged City, the citizen of the opposition party originated
the Incident of Formosa in the City.
The growth of this Association has never slowed down, the number of
members has been increased to close to one thousand now from 85 when
chartered. The members of the Association have committed to devote
their efforts to the development of the City all the time.
The highest authority of
the Association is the Members Assembly, with the Board of Directors
and Board of Supervisors under it. With the supervision from the Board
of Supervisors, twenty-one directors in the Board of Directors handle
the daily affairs including services for the members and the public.

| There are six committees
under the Board of Directors: |

The Committee
of the Public Affair: Participating local public affairs such as urban
planning, urban design, community development, and urban and suburban
characterizing etc. |

The Committee of Rules
and Regulations: Participating reviewing, drafting, and suggestion
of the rules and regulations in relate to the building and urban
development. Assisting governing authority to review the applications
of the interior design and construction. |

The Committee of Discipline
and Practice Rights: Responsible for the maintaining of discipline
and ethics of conduct of all members. Keeping architects a decent
practice environment is another goal of this committee. |

The Committee of the Academic
and Information: To organize the continuing education for the members,
to elevate memberˇ¦s capacity of professional practice, to promote
business e-automation for the members and the Association, and to
maintain a website of the Association. |

Assisting governing authority
to promote Green Building energy saving program in both reviewing
and checking. |

The Committee of the Construction
Evaluation and Real Estate Appraisal: Responsible for the work of
construction evaluation, building estimation; reviewing of building
safety for buildings designated for the public use, and checking the
building safety reviewing work done by others at the request of the
building authority; providing real estate appraisal services for the
foreclosure properties. |

The Committee of the Member
Welfare and Association Real Estate Management: To promote the welfare
and recreation programs for the members, to manage the Associationˇ¦s
real estate properties for the best utilization associated with member
activities. |

In addition to the
above, there are Community Architects in the Association to provide
advising services to the community public in regarding to the buildings,
community development, and the rules and regulations of the community. |

Though the Association
is formed by the members for the needs of practicing architect, due
to the nature of the local services for years, the role of the Association
has been shifted to participating public affairs directly from the
original mainly business orientations. Through the Committees, the
Association directs the member architects to expand their services
from individual building design to community development, public works
and the urban and suburban characters reform. As a professional organization,
the Association is willing to offer its best to the public in showing
cares of the society. |
